CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – UNC Greensboro volleyball (6-8) lost both of its matches in Saturday’s action of the Jefferson Cup, falling to Lehigh 3-1 (23-25, 20-25, 26-24, 17-25) in the first match before a 3-0 decision against Virginia in the evening (13-25, 18-25, 21-25).
With the Jefferson Cup complete, the Spartans have finished off the non-conference portion of the schedule and will now focus on Southern Conference competition beginning this weekend.
Three Things To Know Vs. Virginia
--Freshman Gabriela McHugh posted a team-high 24 assists. She accounted for 24 of Spartans’ 27 assists in the match.
--Freshman Elayne Grisbee recorded two of the Spartans’ four blocks.
-- This was the second all-time meeting with Virginia, with the other match taking place on Sept. 6, 1996.
Three Things To Know Vs. Lehigh
--Junior Maria Esch posted game highs in points (24.5) and kills (21). She also added two blocks during the match’s action.
--Sophomore Mandy Garvins led the Spartans in digs with 14.
--This was the second all-time meeting between UNCG and Lehigh, with the first match between the schools coming during the 1994 season.
The Spartans will turn their attention to SoCon play, starting with a home match against Western Carolina on Friday, Sept. 27. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
UNCG Volleyball is celebrating 50 years of wonderful memories dedicated to celebrating current and former student-athletes, coaches and staff who have made an impact on our family. The program will be hosting a special celebration the weekend of Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19.
