Joakim Mortveit joined the Spartan coaching staff in January, 2019 as a volunteer assistant coach.
Before moving to the United States from Norway, Mortveit served as the head coach for Bø Volleyball Club’sthird division women’s team for three seasons (2015-2018) in Bø, Norway. For the 2016 season, he also acted as the board leader for the club. Prior to this, Mortveit coached the U16 Boys’ Volleyball Team for Vindafjord Sports Club from 2011-2013, in Vikedal, Norway. Since his arrival stateside, Mortveit has acted as an assistant coach for summer volleyball camps with Performance Volleyball Club in Madison, WI, as well as Corey Carlin Volleyball Camps.
Mortveit began his career in volleyball during high school as a student athlete at ToppVolley Norway, Class of 2013. Gaining experience as an elite athlete, Mortveit played as a middle blocker for the Norwegian Junior National Men’s Team, U17-U19,for the entirety of his high school career. Mortveit later went on to play for the Division 1 Spirit Lørenskog Volleyball Club, for two seasons (2016-2018)in college.
In 2018, Mortveit graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science with an emphasis in Physical Activity in Health from the University of Southeast Norway, Bø i Telemark.
