GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men’s golf rising senior Grant Powell has been named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced.
According to GCAA, to be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76 in Division I play and maintain a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2.
Additionally, recipients must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
This year, a record 540 student-athletes earned the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the award’s inception in 1982.
In his first full season at UNCG in 2018-19, Powell helped lead the Spartans to a second-straight Southern Conference Championship. The Colfax, N.C., native participated in 36 rounds of action with a stroke average of 74.89. Individually, he finished in in the top 20 in two different tournaments while helping the Spartans win a program-record four tournaments as a team during the season.
