CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – No. 1 seed UNC Greensboro softball (31-22) fell 3-1 to the host of the Southern Conference Tournament, No. 3 Chattanooga (36-14), Friday afternoon at Jim Frost Stadium. The Mocs advance to Saturday’s championship game, while the Spartans will face the winner of No. 5 ETSU-No. 4 Mercer at approximately 4:30 p.m. for the last spot in the championship game.
Chattanooga took the lead in the sixth inning with a two-run homer to centerfield with two outs. The Mocs had placed a runner on with a fielding error with one out.
An insurance run was added in the last inning on a sac fly to left field.
As the home team due to being the higher seed, UNCG struck first in the second inning. Melanie Darges hit a two-out double off the left center fence. Monica Pepe brought her home with an RBI-single that landed just fair next to the right field line.
