GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men’s basketball Head Coach Wes Miller has announced the signing of Bas Leyte to a National Letter of Intent, completing this year’s signing class which also includes Keyshaun and Kobe Langley along with Dericko Williams.
“We are ecstatic to add Bas to the UNCG family,” Miller said. “He's a Spartan: winner, leader and hard worker. His skill set at 6-10 is special, not to mention his length, durability and basketball IQ that impacts the game on both ends of the floor.
“This is a versatile and dynamic recruiting class. Adding these four young men to our current group of underclassman ensures that UNCG Basketball is in a position to continue to build and grow.”
This past season at New Hampton (N.H.) School, Leyte earned Honorable Mention AAA honors from the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) AAA. Additionally, he played for the Expressions Elite in the Nike EYBL, appearing in 13 games. Leyte has represented the Dutch National Team as well.
“We are thrilled that Bas has decided to continue his academic and athletic career at UNCG,” said New Hampton head coach Nick Whitmore. “Bas embodies what coaches look for in a student-athlete and he will be a natural fit at UNCG given the culture of excellence established by Coach Miller and his staff.
“As a player, Bas is versatile and is only just beginning to scratch the surface in terms of what he could become. As a person, Bas is empathetic, funny and intelligent. Bas will give Spartan fans lots to cheer about in the coming years.”
Leyte is also the second New Hampton product on UNCG’s 2019-20 roster, joining rising senior Malik Massey.
