CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The UNCG women’s team earned its fourth straight win on Saturday, third in Southern Conference action, by prevailing 6-1 over Chattanooga.
UNCG (9-10, 3-3 SoCon) claimed its fifth road win of the campaign and evened its league record to 3-3 with the win over the Mocs.
Chattanooga claimed the first win of the day when the doubles tandem of Caroline Hall / Annie Tarwater came through with a 6-4 win over Sophia Adams / Eugenia Camacho. The Spartans quickly tied the doubles score at 1-1 as Nancy Bridges / Erika Barquero came through with a 6-3 victory over Delaney Edwards / Emma Van Hee.
Adams bounced back in singles play, evening the score at one-all with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Hall in the clash of No. 3 seeds. Barquero followed with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Goloputova, as No. 2 singles clashed, moving UNCG in front 2-1.
Gomez put the Spartans within one point of the match as she earned a hard-fought three-set win (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) over Zaporozhets. Bridges mirrored her teammate’s effort, winning in three sets, as she downed Edwards 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to secure the match win for UNCG.
Camacho was responsible for the fifth Spartan point after battling to a 7-6, 7-6 win over Van Hee in the meeting of No. 5 singles. Ory completed the singles sweep for UNCG, downing Tarwater by a 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 margin.
The Spartans conclude Southern Conference regular season on Wednesday, April 10th, when they head to Johnson City, Tenn., to take on East Tennessee State at 2 p.m.
