MESA, ARIZ. – UNC Greensboro women’s golf (316-307) improved its team performance by nine strokes on Saturday in the second round of the Clover Cup. The Spartans trail Nebraska by just one stroke for 10th place and Wisconsin by two strokes for ninth place.

The third round will begin tomorrow morning and live stats will be available via BirdieFire.com

UNCG continues to be led by senior Natalia Asensio (75-76), as she is currently tied for 21st place in the tournament. Asensio on Saturday carded a four-over 76, as she totaled three birdies against seven bogeys.

Sophomore Sara Rydman (82-74), meanwhile, climbed up to a tie for 42nd place after she finished the second round at two-over 74. The Taby, Sweden, native recorded a birdie on Hole 2 and was over par just twice on the day.

”I am really happy with today’s round,” Rydman said. “There were some tough pin placements out there today, but I managed to find the fairway and make a lot of good pars. The wind made for a few challenging holes, so I was happy to walk away with 15 pars today. As a team, we improved a lot from yesterday and we are ready to go out and improve even more tomorrow.”

Fellow sophomore Tara Bettle (81-76) moved into a tied for 49th place during a second round of play that was highlighted by four birdies.

Senior Lexi Kershaw (79-81) is currently in a two-way tie for 63rd place as she finished her second round at nine-over 81.

Sophomore Keri Kenkel (81-83) is one of six golfers tied for 72nd place at 20-over through 36 holes.

Competing in individual play this weekend, freshman Hailey Joy (89-82) sits in a tie for 83rd place.
