CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNCG’s Eugenia Camacho rebounded from an opening set loss to win 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 and in the process recorded the only singles victory for the Spartan women’s tennis team, which fell 6-1 to host Charlotte on Saturday, March 2.
The 49ers moved to 7-3 on the season and extended their winning streak to five straight matches with the victory. Charlotte opened the match by grabbing the first doubles win from Immie Cowper / Tai Martin, who downed Nancy Bridges / Brianna Gomez 6-1. The duo of Pierina Imparato / Sasha Lee secured the first point by posting a 6-2 win against Sophia Adams / Tayah Cross.
Lee picked up her second victory of the afternoon when she downed Barquero by scores of 6-1, 6-3 in No. 3 singles. The lead moved to 3-0 for the 49ers as Safont posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Adams.
Zoe Radojicic, who competed only in singles play, came onto clinch the match for Charlotte with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Ory in a clash of No. 6 seeds. Imparato provided the 49ers with a 5-0 advantage by virtue of a 6-2, 6-2 win over Brianna Gomez.
Martin snagged her second victory of the day as she fought back from an opening set loss to claim a hard-fought 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 match against Bridges.
UNC Greensboro will continue its road swing with a pair of matches at Northern Colorado (March 6) and Colorado State (March 7).
