GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball (9-15, 3-6 Southern Conference) starts a two-game road trip with Mercer (16-7, 8-0) Thursday at 7 p.m.
Five Facts to Know
-The Spartans lead the SoCon in scoring defense (60.4 points per game), three-point field goal defense (.274), rebounding margin (+3.1) and defensive rebounding percentage (.706).
- Nadine Soliman ranks in the conference second in scoring (19.1 points per game), rebounding (7.7 rebounds per game), defensive rebounds per game (6.1) and made three’s per game (2.4).
-Soliman has recorded 1,444 points in her career and needs just 21 more points to move into third place ahead of Melinda Goodson (1996-2000).
- UNCG has recorded 16 double-doubles by four different Spartans, led by Te'ja Twitty and Soliman with six double-doubles each. Soliman had recorded a four-game double-double streak during SoCon play.
-Twitty has recorded 14 double-doubles in her career for fifth-most in school history.
The Spartans in 2018-19
UNCG split a pair of home SoCon games last week, defeating Wofford 77-61 and falling to Furman 59-49. The Spartans are in search of their first league road win with all three conference wins coming at Fleming Gymnasium. UNCG sits in sixth-place in the SoCon standings a full game behind Wofford (4-5) and a half-game ahead of Samford (2-6).
The trio of Soliman, Twitty and Aja Boyd have ranked among the top scorers and rebounders in the SoCon. Besides her strong scoring and rebounding, Soliman is third in free throw percentage (.810), eighth in three-point field goal percentage (.341) and tied for eighth in steals (1.6 per game).
Twitty has done more damage on the offensive glass, ranking second (3.4 per game) in the category. She’s second in field goal percentage (.512), third in overall rebounding (7.5 rpg), eighth in scoring (12.5 ppg) and 10th in free throw percentage (.723). Boyd is right behind Twitty for third in offensive rebounding (3.0) and places fifth in rebounding (6.8 rpg), tied for sixth in steals (1.7 per game), ninth in blocks (0.9 per game) and field goal percentage (.442) and 14th in scoring (10.0 ppg).
Mercer has won all 11 meetings. All but one meeting has been as SoCon opponents when the Bears joined the league for the 2014-15 season.
