GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men’s basketball returns to the Greensboro Coliseum on Thursday evening to host Wofford.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN3.
Five Facts To Know
--The Spartans (14-2) are off to their best start in program history through 16 games, as UNCG has won its last seven games after falling to then-No. 10 Kentucky on Dec. 1.
--UNCG’s current seven-game winning streak is tied for the fourth longest such streak in program history. If the Spartans are able to defeat the Terriers on Thursday night, the eight-game winning streak would be tied for the third longest in program history, matching a mark set by the 1995-96 squad.
--Through Tuesday night’s action, UNCG’s 17-game home winning streak is tied for the sixth longest in the country along with Michigan and Tennessee.
--UNCG is seeking a 4-0 start to conference play for the first time since joining the SoCon. UNCG’s best start to conference play came during the 1994-95 season when the Spartans started their Big South slate at 6-0.
--Wofford will enter the Greensboro Coliseum with a 12-4 record, as the Terriers currently lead the SoCon at 4-0. Wofford is currently riding a three-game winning streak with victories over Western Carolina, The Citadel and Mercer. They are led in scoring by Fletcher Magee at 18.1 points per game.
The Spartans This Season
UNCG (14-2, 3-0) is currently on its longest winning streak in nearly two years as the Spartans have won their last seven games, with the last three victories during the streak coming in SoCon play.
Last Saturday against VMI, the Spartans were able to shake a difficult day on the offensive end of the floor when senior guard Francis Alonso made a three with 51 seconds to break a 67-67 tie before UNCG left Cameron Hall with a 71-68 victory. UNCG has also knocked off Samford and Chattanooga to begin conference play.
Alonso leads the Spartans in scoring this season, as the Malaga, Spain, native is averaging a career-high 18.4 points per game. Sophomore guard Isaiah Miller is second on the team in scoring at 14.3 points per game with two 20-point games against SoCon opponents already.
Junior forward James Dickey, meanwhile, returned from a six-game absence against VMI, scoring nine points and grabbing six rebounds. He’s averaging 7.3 points and 7.6 rebounds this season.
This will be 42nd meeting between the SoCon rivals dating back to their first matchup that took place on Nov. 30, 1985.
While the Terriers hold a 25-16 advantage in the all-time series, the Spartans have won the last four meetings, two of which have come during the SoCon Tournament. UNCG has also won the last three games between the schools played in Greensboro.
