ELON, N.C. – After their longest break of the season to date, UNC Greensboro men’s basketball will return to the court on Friday night to take on Elon.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed through Elon’s athletics website.

Five Facts To Know

--The Spartans are in the midst of their best start in program history, as UNCG is 7-2 through nine games. UNCG’s two losses have come against ranked SEC competition in LSU and Kentucky.

--UNCG is currently 4-0 against in-state opponents so far this year, as the Spartans have defeated North Carolina A&T, UNCW, Johnson & Wales and Greensboro College by a combined score of 327-217. Three of those games were won by 20 points or more.

--Senior guard Demetrius Troy (127) is just four steals away from cracking the top 10 in program history for career steals. Troy this season has recorded a steal in seven of nine games, including a four-steal performance against Johnson & Wales along with three steals against both Greensboro College and Kentucky.

--It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached this point, but Friday’s game will be the final road non-conference game of the season for UNCG. The Spartans will have three more non-conference games – all at home – before opening up Southern Conference play against Samford on Dec. 22.

--Elon enters the game with a 3-6 record, as the Phoenix have lost their last two games including a 98-77 decision to No. 25 Furman on Tuesday. Elon began the season on the road at Manhattan before opening up the Schar Center in a 116-67 loss to No. 8 North Carolina.

The Spartans In 2018

UNCG (7-2) is currently one of seven SoCon schools with a .500 record or better on the season, as the Spartans have won seven of their first nine games.

Senior guard Francis Alonso has been sharp to start his final season at UNCG, as the Malaga, Spain, native is averaging 19.3 points per game. He’s currently in the middle of his most consistent scoring stretch, too, as he’s had at least 15 points in all nine games this year.

Junior forwards James Dickey and Kyrin Galloway, meanwhile, are combining to average 20 points and 12.7 rebounds per game.

Series History

This will be the 41st meeting between the two Triad schools dating back to the 1971-72 season, as the Spartans trail in the all-time series 26-14. UNCG, however, won the last meeting, which will have taken place one year ago to the day of Friday night’s matchup, as the Spartans defeated Elon 75-44 at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Upcoming For The Spartans

The Spartans will close out non-conference play with three home games during a seven-day span, starting with next Wednesday’s game against Coppin State.
