Greensboro, N.C. - UNC Greensboro women's basketball (3-2) defeated UNC Pembroke (1-3) 72-32 in Fleming Gymnasium Sunday for its fourth consecutive home win dating to last season.

The Spartans have been dominated at home this season in the three wins.  The Spartans are averaging 75.3 points, while holding opponents to 28.0 points per game and winning by an average of 47.3 points.  The Braves never reached 10 points in a quarter as UNC Pembroke scored eight points in all four quarters.  In the 12 quarters played in Fleming Gymnasium this season, the Spartans have given up 10-plus points in two quarters.

“We wanted to build better rebounding and I thought that we did,” head coach Trina Patterson said.  “We did a much better job rebounding and that was key for us.  The second thing that we need is more bench production and we knew that it was coming that Alexus (Willey) was going to get going.  I’m glad to see some success for Cece (Crudup) because she’s been working hard.”

The Spartans recorded a season-high 43.1 shooting percentage and 11 three-pointers made.  The Spartans held UNC Pembroke to a 20.5 shooting percent from the floor, including a 14.3 shooting percentage from the 3-point line.  UNCG out rebounded the Braves 41-28 and shot 40.7 percent from the 3-point line. 

Junior guard Nadine Soliman led the team with a game-high 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-6 from the 3-point line and added eight rebounds, while sophomore Aja Boyd nearly recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Junior guards Cece Crudup and Alexus Willey each recorded 10 points and Willey recorded five rebounds and Crudup added four rebounds and five assists, while sophomore guard Aneka Yelverton added nine points and four rebounds.

The Spartans scored six of the first eight points of the game to take a four-point lead, 6-2, with 7:25 remaining in the first quarter, but a Brave three-pointer cut the lead to a point, 6-5, with 7:02 left.  UNCG scored the next five points to increase the lead to six points, 11-5 with 6:17 left, but another Brave three-pointer cut the lead to three points, 11-8, with 5:51 left.  The Spartans scored 12 of the final points to take a first-quarter lead of 15 points.

UNCG scored the first three points of the second quarter to take an 18-point lead, 26-8, with 8:59 remaining in the quarter, but a Brave three-pointer cut the lead to 15 points, 26-11, with 6:05 left in the first half.  The Spartans scored 10 of the next 16 points to increase the lead to 22-points, 36-14, with 28 seconds left, but two UNC Pembroke free throws cut the halftime deficit of 20 points, 36-16.

The Spartans scored the first four points of the third quarter to increase the lead to 24 points, 40-16, with 6:03 remaining in the third quarter, but the Braves scored the next four points to cut the lead to 20 points, 40-20, with 4:21 left.  UNCG scored 14 of the final 18 points to increase the lead to 30-points, 54-24, after the third quarter.

A Willey three-pointer gave UNCG a 33-point lead, 57-24, with 9:37 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Braves scored the next six points to cut the lead to 27 points, 57-30, with 5:38 remaining in the game.  The Spartans scored 15 of the final 17 points for the 40-point win.
