KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.– Sophomore Keri Kenkel, of the UNC Greensboro women’s golf team, move up 28 spots during the second round after shooting an even-par 72 at the Turtle Point Golf Course at the Palmetto Invitational Monday.
Kenkel started the day in a tie for 54th, but after the even-par 72 second round score, the Charlotte, N.C., native moved up into a tie for 26th with a two-round score of six-over par 150 to lead the Spartans after the second round. Kenkel shot a one-over par 37 on the back nine, but finished with a one-under par 35 on the front nine.
Senior Lexi Kershaw and freshman Hailey Joy remain tied after both shot a four-over par 76 in the second round to shoot a seven-over par 151 to finish in a tie for 30th.
Sophomore Tara Bettle finished the second round with a six-over par 78 for a two-round score of 10-over par 154 to finish in a tie for 46th, while junior Louisa Tichy finished the day with an 81 for a two-round score of 162 to finish in a tie for 76th. Bettle finished strong with a one-over par 37 on the front nine.
As a team, the Spartans moved up one spot to ninth place after a 14-over par 302. UNCG is two strokes behind eighth place Winthrop and three strokes back from sixth place Charlotte and Wichita State.
The Spartans begin the final round Tuesday.
