GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro softball finished the fall season with a perfect 8-0 record with a 2-1 win in a schedule 10-inning game over Coker College Friday night at UNCG Softball Stadium. The Spartans outscored opponents 66-23 in the fall schedule.
The Spartans went perfect for a second-straight fall season after also finishing 8-0 last year. Among the eight victories this year for UNCG were against Charlotte (13-7), Elon (7-2), Duke (8-5) and North Carolina (6-5).
UNCG scored its only two runs in the ninth after trailing 1-0. Monica Pepe led off with a single and went to third base on a sac bunt by Rachel Johnson. Jasmine Palmer put runner on the corners after reaching on an error. Makenna Matthijs knocked in both baserunners with a double off the right field wall.
Matthijs was the only Spartan to finish with multiple hits with an earlier single.
Hannah Stiltner started in the circle and threw four innings, allowing one run, three hits, one walk and five strikeouts (all looking). Coker scored its lone run in the first inning off all three hits, but Stiltner ended the threat afterwards with a strikeout and line out. Only two baserunners reached in the next three innings.
Kylie Bouplon threw the next three innings, entering in the fifth. She retired the side in all three innings and finished with two strikeouts.
Stephanie Bryden finished the game in the circle and also retired the side in each inning. She struck out three batters and also got three flyouts and three groundouts.
