GREENSBORO, N.C.– UNC Greensboro’s volleyball team (9-9, 3-3 Southern Conference) fell to ETSU (14-4, 3-1 SoCon) 3-0 (25-27, 20-25, 17-25) Wednesday night in Fleming Gymnasium to snap a two-match winning streak and to conclude the three match homestand.
“I thought that we didn’t come out with the same energy that we did Friday and Saturday,” head coach Corey Carlin said. “So that made a little tougher for us to get on track. It was back-and-forth the whole first set. ETSU is a good program and well coached. So, we knew it was going to be a battle and it proved to be.”
Sophmore outside hitter Maria Esch led the Spartans with a match-high 12 kills, while junior outside hitter Emily Keilen added 10 kills with a .350 hitting percentage and five digs.
Senior setter Allison Penner led the team with a match-high 33 assists and added six digs, while freshman defensive specialist Stephanie Meysembourg recorded a team-high 14 digs and added seven assists and sophomore outside hitter Holly Behrends added eight kills and nine digs.
The Spartans scored six of the first nine points to take a three-point lead, 6-3, in the first set, but ETSU scored seven of the next 10 points to take a point lead, 10-9. UNCG scored seven of the 10 points to take a three-point lead, 16-13, forcing an ETSU timeout.

With both teams scoring four points each to keep the match tied at 25, ETSU scored the final two points of the set to win the set by two points and to take a 1-0 match lead.
The Bucs scored four of the first five points in the second frame to take a three-point lead, 4-1, but the Spartans scored six of the next 10 points to cut the lead to a point, 8-7. ETSU scored 17 of the final 30 points to win the set by five points and to take a 2-0 match lead.
ETSU scored 13 of the first 24 points in the final stanza to take a four-point lead, 13-9, forcing a Spartan timeout. After the timeout, UNCG scored three of the next four points to cut the lead to two points, 14-12, but the Bucs scored 11 of the final 16 points to win the set by eight points and to win the match.
