GREENSBORO, N.C. – In the second round of the Col. Wollenberg Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., UNC Greensboro’s women’s golf team moved up one spot and is currently in 12th place entering the third round tomorrow. The Spartans shot a 297 in Tuesday’s play, tied for the fifth lowest score on the day. Live scoring for the Col. Wollenberg Ram Classic will continue to be available on GolfStat.com.

The Spartans ended the first day in 13th place, but surpassed Portland State and Northern Colorado on Tuesday. They’re also within striking distance of Long Beach State, Portland State and Wyoming.

Boise State currently leads the tournament at three-over 579 after shooting a 286 in the second round.

Sophomore Keri Kenkel, one of two Spartans named to the All-Southern Conference Freshman Team in the spring, started the day with three birdies on her first four holes, finishing the back nine at one-under 35.

Her strong start continued on the front nine as she birdied on holes No. 2 and 3 before also birdieing two of the final three holes to finish the day at 68, the lowest single round score of her career.

"I’m super excited about my round today," Kenkel said. "It’s my first time breaking 70 in a tournament, so it was a really big day. I hit pretty well but it was definitely my putting that made the round. I was seeing the lines on every hole and I was really confident with my game today, which was a strong comeback after yesterday. I’m proud of the team for playing better and getting our first tournament nerves out. We’re looking forward to going low tomorrow and ending the tournament on a good note."

After leading the Spartans in the opening round, senior Lexi Kershaw finished the second round at 73 for the second day in a row and is currently tied for eighth place.

Sophomore Tara Bettle, meanwhile, finished her second round at 78. Junior Louisa Tichy lowered her score in the second round, as she shot a 76 on Tuesday while freshman Hailey Joy finished the second round of her first collegiate tournament at 82.

In individual play, senior Natalia Asensio shot a 78.
