Competing in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) this summer with the Upper Valley Nighthawks, UNCG infielder Greg Hardison has been selected to the league’s All Star Game as a reserve designated hitter for the North Division.
The 2018 NECBL All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, July 29 at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass.
In 31 games so far this summer with the Nighhawks, Hardison is batting .322 in 118 at-bats with 38 hits along with 14 RBIs and 12 walks. He is tied for the team lead in triples (two) and has also hit a home run.
During his freshman season with the Spartans in 2018, the 6-foot-1, 185 pounder appeared in 30 games with 18 starts (12 at shortstop and six as the designated hitter), collecting 27 hits with 13 runs scored, 11 RBIs, five doubles, five walks and five stolen bases.
He was also one of 11 players on the team to notch at least one triple.
In a 9-3 victory over Lipscomb on March 16, Hardison registered the best outing of his debut season, as he went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with a game-high four RBIs.
It was one of four games in which the Greenville, N.C., native collected at least three hits.
Hardison is now the fourth UNCG baseball player to be selected to an All-Star Game this summer, joining infielder Austin Embler (Valley League) and pitchers Jake Mayhew and Jeremiah Triplett (Carolina Virginia Collegiate League).
