GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball centerfielder Andrew Moritz was drafted in the sixth round, pick 172 by the Atlanta Braves Tuesday afternoon in the Major League Baseball Draft. Moritz is the second highest position player drafted in school history.
Moritz is UNCG’s career leader in batting average (.406), triples (23), consecutive game hitting streak (23), consecutive games reached base streak (47) and was the first Spartan to be named Southern Conference Player of the Year for his efforts this season. This season he was named a third team All-American by Baseball America. He was a two-time First Team All-SoCon honoree and was named a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American for his efforts during the 2017 season. He was named to the Freshman All-SoCon team as a rookie and is a former Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.
