GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Spartan Club recently hosted its third annual Spiro's Ball event at Greensboro Country Club, along with its 27th annual Spartan Club Golf Classic at Grandover Resort. Both events, which generated a record high of more than $183,000 in total gross revenue, were sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. All proceeds raised through the Spartan Club events directly benefit UNCG's student-athletes.
Spiro's Ball, held on April 19th, was a signature evening for the Spartan Club. The night included a three-course dinner along with a live auction featuring auctioneer Wayne Cannada from Cannada Auctions. Additionally, an online silent auction was held during a four-week period prior to the event. There were nearly 250 attendees at Spiro's Ball and more than 155 items were bid on during the night that included appearances by UNCG head coaches, student-athletes, and a performance by former UNCG women’s soccer player and rising country music star Karla Davis. The event generated $113,349 in total gross revenue. This is a 36% increase over last year's total.
“The outpouring of support from the Spartan community through these two events was tremendous,” Director of Athletics Kim Record said. “Growing revenue through these special events is critical as we continue to compete for championships and provide an environment that allows our student-athletes to pursue comprehensive excellence. We are so thankful for the hard work of our volunteers and all of those in the community who took part in these special events.”
Additionally, the Spartan Club hosted its annual Golf Classic on April 12th at Grandover Resort’s Championship East Course. This year's event was sold out and generated $69,935 in total gross revenue, an increase of 38% over last year’s total.
