ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Senior center Ije Ajemba (Lanham, Md./Old Dominion) adds to her trophy case after being named First Team All-Tournament for her performance last weekend at the Southern Conference Tournament. Ajemba led the Spartans to the tournament semifinals before falling to the runner-up, ETSU.
The senior scored 13.5 points per game and grabbed 14.5 rebounds in the two games. Her 29 total rebounds over the weekend broke the UNCG school-record across all divisions for total rebounds in a season, breaking Renee Coltrane’s 33-year old record of 379 and setting the new record at 386. She set Division I era school-records for single season offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds and total rebounds. She also set and broke her own Division I era school-record of rebounds in a single game.
During the tournament, Ajemba shot 42.3 percent from the floor (11-for-26) and sunk four of five from the free throw line. She also took her first 3-point attempt and sunk the shot from downtown. She also blocked three shots and grabbed a steal during the tournament.
