GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s golf team finished tied for ninth place with Southern Conference foe Chattanooga after the final round of the Autotrader Collegiate Tuesday hosted by Georgia State at the par-72, 6,694-yard Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga. The Spartans close out the fall season October 28-29 when they host their annual UNCG Grandover Collegiate at the Grandover Resort.

The Spartans finished with a 25-over par 889 score on the week, opening with an even-par 288 in round one before turning in a 15-over par 303 in round two. UNCG closed out the event with a 10-over par 298 Tuesday. Georgia Southern won the team title by 24 strokes with a 17-under par 847 (283-275-289). Steven Fisk of Georgia Southern ran away from the field with a tournament record 19-under par 197 (66-66-65), individually winning by 12 strokes

Freshman Nick Lyerly (Salisbury, N.C./East Rowan) led the Spartans with a 19th place finish overall at 4-over par 220. Lyerly ranked first in the entire field with 41 par scores in 54-holes of golf. He opened with a 1-under par 71 in round one before carding a 2-over par 74 in round two. He followed that up with a 3-over par 75 in the final round, carding three bogeys and 15 par scores.  

Senior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Southern Pines) was the Spartans’ top mover Tuesday, jumping 15 spots in the standings to finish tied for 39th at 8-over par 224. Stockwell opened Monday with rounds of 75-77 before carding his lowest round of the week at even-par 72. He tallied three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars in the final round.

Junior Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) also finished in a tie for 39th overall at 8-over par 224. Hendrix opened the week impressively, posting a 3-under par 69 in round one and sitting in second place after 18-holes. He followed that up with a 7-over par 79 in round two and a 4-over par 76 in round three when he posted 12 pars and one birdie. He ranked ninth in the field with 37 total pars in 54-holes.

Sophomore Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) finished tied for 45th overall with a 9-over par 227. Brightwell’s best round came in round one with a 1-over par 73 before adding two strokes each round to card scores of 75-77. He finished his final round with 12 par scores.

Senior Joseph Cansler (Clemmons, N.C./Surry CC) rounded out the lineup in 74th place with a 16-over par 232 (80-77-75). Cansler posted his best round of the event Tuesday, carding three birdies, six bogeys and nine pars. Sophomore Ben Buben (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) played as an individual and posted a 14-over par 230 (78-75-77) to finish in 69th place.  

The Spartans were joined in the field by host Georgia State, Chattanooga, Augusta, Kansas, Notre Dame, Lipscomb, Boston College, Yale, Winthrop, Francis Marion, Richmond, Georgia Southern, Davidson, Bowling Green and Mississippi State.
