GREENSBORO, N.C. – The day after beginning regular season practice, head coach Trina Patterson has announced the 2017-18 women’s basketball team captains. One of the nation’s youngest teams will have two sophomore captains in Alexis Pitchford (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) and Te’ja Twitty (Rutherfordton, N.C./Rutherfordton-Spindale Central). The two were named captains after a vote conducted by their teammates and coaching staff.
“I’m very excited about this season’s captains.” Coach Patterson said, “Alexis (Pitchford) and Te’ja (Twitty) have demonstrated their leadership abilities last season and in preseason this year. They put the team first and are very hard workers. I’m excited about the leadership abilities they have shown so far in their young careers. They are talented, disciplined and very passionate about this game. Most importantly, they are good teammates. To be young and leaders will be a challenge, but they’ll be up for it.”
