GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the fourth year in a row, 100 percent of all current UNCG student-athletes made a gift to their team's enrichment fund as part of the True Spartan Challenge. UNCG is among a small number of schools across the country that have accomplished this level of dedication to its programs and Spartan student-athletes have made a bold statement about their commitment to UNCG Athletics. This feat is only one of the many goals UNCG student-athletes have reached on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

“Being a student-athlete at UNCG provides so many benefits and wonderful opportunities for us to grow and learn as people and athletes,” Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Vice President Warren Bryan said. “The True Spartan Challenge gives us an opportunity to give back to our department and show how much their commitment means to us and how committed we are to upholding the ideals put forth by the athletic department. Another year at 100% participation shows how invested we are in both giving back and being true Spartans.”

The True Spartan Challenge student-athlete giving campaign was developed as a partnership between the Spartan Club and the SAAC. Through the True Spartan Challenge, student-athletes also competed to be the first two men's and two women's teams to 100% participation. This year, men's golf and men's soccer accomplished the feat on the men's side, while softball and women's cross-country/track earned the top two spots on the women's side.

For its achievements, men's golf, men's soccer, softball and women's cross-country/track will receive $250 in its enrichment funds while all other teams will receive $50 for its enrichment funds. These enrichment fund bonuses are being provided by the Spartan Club.

Gifts made to team enrichment funds are split, with 80% going to the team's enrichment fund and 20% going to the athletic scholarship fund.  Enrichment funds allow teams to use gifts as enhancements to their operating budget for special one-time needs such as equipment, facility enhancements, out-of-region travel, and other items.
