GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Spartan Club hosted its second annual Spiro's Ball event along with its 26th annual Spartan Club Golf Classic last week. Both events were held at Greensboro Country Club and were sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. One hundred percent of the dollars raised through the Spartan Club events goes to the athletic scholarship fund in support of UNCG's student-athletes.
Spiro's Ball, which was sold out three weeks prior to the event April 19th, was a signature evening for the Spartan Club this year. The night included a three-course dinner along with a live auction featuring auctioneer Wayne Cannada from Cannada Auctions. Additionally, a silent online auction was held during a four-week period prior to the event. There were nearly 300 attendees at Spiro's Ball and more than 110 items were bid on during the night that included appearances by UNCG head coaches and student-athletes. The event generated more than $83,000 in total revenue. This is a 58% increase over last year's total.
“The Spartan community really came together to make a difference for our program last week,” Director of Athletics Kim Record said. “We raised a substantial amount of money that will directly impact the lives of our student-athletes. We are so thankful for the hard work of our volunteers and all of those in the community who took part in these special events.”
Additionally, the Spartan Club hosted its annual Golf Outing April 20th at Greensboro Country Club's Farm Course. This year's event was also sold out and generated more than $54,000 in total revenue.
