GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s golf team finished up one round at the Tiger Invitational Monday at the Grand National Lake Course. The teams started round two but did not finish due to darkness. The teams will play the rest of round two and all of round three Tuesday with live scoring available at www.golfstatresults.com.
The Spartans posted a 9-over par 297 score in round one to sit in 18th place overall. Tournament host and No. 23 Auburn holds the overall lead with a 9-under par 279 score. Chris Gugleimlo of Kennesaw State holds the individual lead with a 7-uner par 65.
Junior Josh Stockwell (Aberdeen, N.C./Pinecrest) paced the Spartans with an even-par 72 to finish the first round in a tie for 25th place overall. Stockwell recorded 13 par scores and notched birdies on holes No. 4, 7 and 15 in his opening round.
Freshman Jonathan Brightwell (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) is one of three Spartans tied for 62nd place overall with a 3-over par 75. Brightwell recorded 14 pars on the round and recorded a pair of birdies. Senior Jake McGlone (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) tallied 14 pars and one birdie while sophomore Bryce Hendrix (Greenville, N.C./D.H. Conley) also sits in 62nd place after two birdies and 11 pars. Junior Joseph Cansler (Clemmons, N.C./Surry CC) rounds out the lineup in 78th place with a 4-over par 76.
The field includes host No. 23 Auburn, UNCG, Kennesaw State, Missouri, James Madison, West Virginia, Charlotte, Troy, Minnesota, UNCW, Georgia State, South Alabama, Maryland, Louisville, Mississippi State, Kansas State, Arkansas State, Samford and Davidson.
