Balanced Performances Leads Baseball to Sweep over Maryland Eastern Shore
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Spartan baseball, powered by another stellar performance from Matt Frisbee (Candler, N.C./Enka) earned an 18-4 victor to earn the weekend sweep over the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks Sunday afternoon. The Spartans racked up 20 hits in the contest, while Frisbee logged another 7.0 shutout innings. Its Frisbee’s third outing this season where the sophomore has thrown 7.0 innings. He carried a no-hitter into the top of the seventh inning Sunday.
UNCG improves to 5-6 on the season, and are currently on a three-game winning streak. Maryland Eastern Shore falls to 0-9 on the season.
“Frisbee was masterful today, we had a lot of momentum feeding off of his outing and how he carried himself and his presence on the mound was phenomenal.” Head coach Link Jarrett said, “It was good to see (Caleb) Webster and (Austin) Embler and some of the guys at the top of the lineup really take advantage and get the game headed in the right director for us right out of the gate. We had good at bats up and down the lineup.”
“Webster works really hard, it was good to see him start at shortstop and come in and go 5-for-5 was fun to see.” Jarrett continued, “Those are the moments you sit back and are fun to watch. He’s one of our hardest working guys, he’s always in that cage and I tell him to be ready, and he’s going to get his chance. I’m impressed with how hard (Ryan) Clinch plays behind the plate. He’s back there grinding, catching every inning for us and it was good to see him be productive at the plate. Its difficult to sweep a series, and I’m proud of the way we played today and how we were able to finish out the sweep.”
Frisbee started on the hill and carried a no-hitter into the top of the sixth inning. Frisbee allowed just four base runners to the 24 batters he faced. After an error started the game, Frisbee issued a walk and hit one batter as those were the only three to reach base until the seventh inning. Frisbee gave up a single to Jamison Trower with two outs in the frame.
Zach Kuchmaner (Charlotte, N.C./Marvin Ridge), Jeremiah Triplett (Wilkesboro, N.C./West Wilkes) and Alex Sova (Midland, Mich./Kellogg CC) worked in relief. The three combined to work the last two innings, with Kuchmaner recording a strikeout.
