Ka’lia Johnson joined the women’s basketball coaching staff in August 2016 season as a graduate assistant. Johnson was a member of the 2013 ACC Tournament Champion squad at Duke and helped her team reach the NCAA Elite Eight during her time with the Blue Devils.
Johnson will serve as the team’s graduate assistant and will assist with film editing, community service projects and other assigned duties.
A member of the Blue Devils women’s basketball team from 2011-15, Johnson earned a starting role during the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament as a junior. She started 32-of-34 games at point guard as a senior and recorded the seventh triple-double in Duke history against Old Dominion. That same season she finished ranked fifth in the ACC in assists per game and led the team with 126 assists. Johnson was named the Blue Devil’s team captain her senior season.
Following graduation she inked a professional contract with BLK Slavia Praha where she was a four-time ZBL Player of the Week in the Czech Republic League. She let the ZBL in rebounds per game (10.5) and was fourth in points per game (19.4).
Last season she served as team captain for Alte Kanti Aarau in Aarau, Switzerland before returning to the United States to take a job as the Fitness Coordinator at American Family Fitness in Colonial Heights, Va.
Johnson has been a Duke University Women’s Basketball Summer Camp coach since 2012 and served as the Camp Director from 2014-15.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Duke University.
