UNCGSpartans.com 07-18-2016

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG Spartan Club, the official fundraising organization for UNCG Athletics, exceeded its annual scholarship fund goal for the fifth consecutive year.

The 2015-16 athletic scholarship fund goal was $425,000 and the Spartan Club eclipsed that mark by raising a total of $425,329, an all-time high. Over the past five years, the Spartan Club has raised more cash and gifts in kind than any other five-year period in the program's history.

In addition, the Spartan Club and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council coordinated the True Spartan Challenge, a student-athlete giving campaign that saw 100 percent of UNCG student-athletes make a gift back to their team enrichment funds for the third consecutive year.

UNCG Athletics also received a historic gift during the 2015-16 fiscal year.  Dr. Nancy Vacc, a former UNCG professor, made a planned gift in the amount of $725,000 to establish the Vacc Women’s Golf Scholarship Endowment for the women’s golf program. As the second largest overall gift and the largest planned gift ever received by UNCG Athletics, the Vacc Women’s Golf Endowment will provide the value of a full out of state scholarship for Women’s Golf on an annual basis.

Another highlight of the year for the Spartan Club included the highly successful launch of Spiro’s Ball, a live and silent auction event that generated more than $50,000 in total revenue for UNCG Athletics. The day after Spiro’s Ball, the 25th anniversary edition of the Spartan Club Golf Classic was hosted and featured a sold-out field. Both events were sponsored by Northwestern Mutual.

The mission of the Spartan Club is to secure the financial support that will provide our student-athletes with the opportunities to achieve academic and athletic excellence. As a non-profit organization, the Spartan Club supports more than 200 student-athletes who compete in 17 varsity sports at the Division I level.  To join the Spartan Club or to learn more about its effort on behalf of UNCG student-athletes, call 336-334-3576 or visit www.spartanclub.org.
