GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG first-year women’s golf head coach Janell Howland has announced the 2014-15 schedule for the Spartans, including their fall Forest Oaks Golf Classic and the spring Bryan National, which it co-hosts with Wake Forest.
“I am excited for this team and what we can do this year,” Howland said. “We have had good practices and made some big strides in only our first week back on campus. We have a couple of weeks to get some work down before we start the season. We open the year with three straight tournaments in a row, including our home tournament at the end of September.”
The Spartans open the year Sept. 14-16 in their first of three tournaments this year hosted by the College of Charleston in the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall. After a trip to the Furman Invitational Sept. 21-23, UNCG will host its fall tournament, the Forest Oaks Fall Classic, at the Forest Oaks Country Club Sept. 29-30. The 54-hole event will see two rounds play on day one and the final 18 holes played day two. The Spartans wrap up the fall season Oct. 26-28 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted at the Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah.
The Spartans open the spring season back in Kiawah at the Kiawah Island Classic March 1-3. The Kiawah Island Classic is held at Osprey Point and Oak Point Golf Clubs. Junior Sammie Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) was a medalist at the Oak Point course last season in her best career finish.
After a visit to the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate in Georgia March 13-21, the Spartans will travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain View Collegiate March 20-21. UNCG wraps up the regular season April 3-5 as it co-hosts the prestigious Bryan National at Bryan Park with Wake Forest.
The 2015 Southern Conference Championships will be held at the Savannah Quarters in Pooler, Ga., just outside of Savannah from April 12-14.
