Menís Soccer Opens Preseason Practice
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2014 UNCG men’s soccer team is back on campus and already underway with preseason practices in preparation for the upcoming season. The Spartans opened preseason camp Monday with their first two practices and are entering their third day of work Wednesday. UNCG opens the season with a pair of home exhibition games next week against Guilford Aug. 20 and Liberty Aug. 23 at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The Spartans are led by fifth-year head coach Justin Maullin and are coming off a third place finish in the Southern Conference last season. UNCG once again has a strong regular season schedule for the 2014 season that includes 10 home games at the UNCG Soccer Stadium where the Spartans historically own a 150-60-21 (.695) record.
Senior Aaron Reifschneider (Frisco, Texas/Lakeland) leads the Spartans into the season after missing all of last year due to an injury. Reifschneider was a preseason All-Southern Conference selection prior to last year’s injury and has played in 48 career games, dishing out nine assists. Redshirt junior forward Dustin Gamradt (Kiel, Germany/Hebbleschule) is the Spartans’ top returning scorer from last season as he posted a team-high five goals, all off the bench in just 14 games played.
The Spartans open the regular season at home Aug. 29 hosting Campbell at 8 p.m. in the second game of a men’s/women’s doubleheader at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. UNCG will play five of its first seven games of the year at home with games against Campbell, James Madison, No. 23 Charlotte, Virginia Tech and Georgia State.
