GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG rising junior RHP Ryan Clark (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) has been selected to participate in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League All Star Game scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, at Historic Dunn Field in Elmira, N.Y.
Clark is the third Spartan to earn all-star status in a summer league this season as rising seniors Eric Kalbfleisch (Pilot Mountain, N.C./North Stokes) and Brennen James (Taylorsville, N.C./Alexander Central) were named to the all-star rosters in the Valley League and Carolina Virginia Collegiate League respectively.
In four games this summer with the current league-leading Amsterdam Mohawks, Clark is 1-0 with a miniscule and team-best 0.95 earned run average. He has tallied 18 strikeouts against just three walks in 19 innings of work and has started all four contests in which he has appeared. Clark has given up just two earned runs and has been responsible for part of two Mohawk shutout victories. In a 6-0 triumph over the Glens Falls Golden Eagles, Clark was the winning pitcher as he threw six innings of scoreless baseball and allowed just two hits while striking out five.
Clark was UNCG’s Friday starter during the 2014 campaign and finished the season with a 3.64 ERA – the lowest in the Spartans’ weekend rotation. He appeared in 14 games and started 13 while pitching a team-high 93 innings.
Clark picked up victories over Georgetown, Georgia Southern and Elon and nearly threw a complete game against the Hoyas. In that game, he limited Georgetown to just one unearned run and struck out five batters. Clark also threw a complete game in a narrow 5-4 loss to eventual Southern Conference regular season champion Western Carolina.
