GREENSBORO, N.C. - After two tough matches against Coastal Carolina and North Carolina State, the UNCG men’s tennis team is set to host North Carolina Central and USC Upstate this weekend.

The Spartans will host NCCU Saturday at noon and welcome in USC Upstate Sunday at noon.  Both UNCG and North Carolina Central enter the match 0-2, while USC Upstate comes into the weekend slate at 1-2. The matches will be held at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center in Greensboro.

“We have been working very hard in practice,” head coach Thomas Mozur said. “The team is prepared.”

The Spartans and the Eagles came up against NC State earlier in the spring season, and both fell 7-0 to the Wolfpack. NCCU also fell 7-0 to Duke. The two teams last met in the fall of 2011. USC Upstate fell to Georgia State and Presbyterian but took down Gardner Webb 5-2 for their sole victory of the season. The last Spartan versus Spartan match up was in February of 2011.

UNCG saw their first match against defending Big South champion Coastal Carolina end in heartbreak after Cameron Smith fell to freshman Jabor Al-Mutawa in a tough tie-breaking match. Smith fought hard to the finish but fell in three sets 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

“I believe the team is hungry to get back on the winning track, but it won't be easy with two quality opponents this weekend,” Mozur said.
