WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNCG men’s tennis team completed Day two at the Wake Forest Invitational Saturday night at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
In singles action, senior Ahmet Sarioglu (Ankara, Turkey/METU Development Foundation) reached the consolation finals after taking down Dimitry Zyhmantovich from Norfolk State, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
Sophomore Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) also reach the consolation finals in the C1 singles bracket after defeating Iowa’s Nils Hallestrand, 6-4, 6-0.
Senior Jimmy Roueche (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) fell just short in the semifinals against Furman’s Jacob Behal, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Junior Randy Phillips(Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) lost a tough three set match against Robin Riethmueller (Norfolk State), 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3).
Sophomore James Flynn (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) defeated Jordan Lawson (Lenoir-Rhyne) in a consolation match, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles play, Sarioglu and Mack lost in the semifinals to North Carolina’s Clark/Hess-Olsen, 8-3. Phillips and sophomore Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) defeated Charlotte’s Masalle/Weber, 8-4, to reach the consolation finals in the B-doubles bracket.
UNCG will finish the Wake Forest Invitational Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
