GREENSBORO, N.C. – Trailing Western Carolina (14-23, 2-7) 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday at UNCG Softball Stadium, UNC Greensboro softball (25-13, 7-2) has postponed the game to Saturday. The game will be resumed at 11 a.m. followed the other two games of the series.
The Catamounts had had three leads in the game with the Spartans tying it up the first two times. After a Western Carolina RBI-fielder’s choice following a throwing error on a sac bunt to start the game, the Spartans tied it up in the bottom of the inning. Makenna Matthijs led off with a double to left center, and Delaney Cumbie followed with an RBI-double to right center.
Western Carolina hit a pair of solo homers in the fourth inning, and UNCG had two runs in the bottom of the inning. Leadoff hitter Katie Stettler was hit by a pitch and went to third base on a throwing error on a sac bunt by Melanie Darges. After Darges went to second base on a groundout by Hannah Kincer, Samantha Lagrama knocked in both baserunners with a single to right field.
The lead was taken again by Western Carolina with a solo homer to right field in the next inning.
Stephanie Bryden pitched all six innings with three earned runs, five hits, no walks and six strikeouts.
