GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball (6-8) starts the New Year with a trip to Richmond, Va., to face Richmond (2-10) Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Robins Center.

Five Facts to Know

-The Spartans lead the SoCon in field-goal percentage defense, rebound margin, scoring defense, scoring margin and three-point field goals defense.

-Junior guard Nadine Soliman ranks second in the SoCon and ranks 35th in the NCAA with 19.4 points per game

-Junior forward Te’ja Twitty leads the SoCon with 54.2 shooting percentage, which ranks 50th in the NCAA.

-Soliman has recorded 1,257 career points and needs 121 points to enter the top-five in school history.

-Twitty has 560 career rebounds and needs 32 rebounds to enter the top-10 in school history.

The Spartans in 2018

Coastal Carolina snapped the Spartans six game home winning streak with a 78-71 win in overtime in Fleming Gymnasium.  Sophomore forward Aja Boyd and junior forward Mangela Ngandjui each recorded a double-double.  Boyd led the team with a game-high 14 rebounds and added 17 points, while Ngandjui added 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Soliman leads the team with 19.4 points per game, which is second in the Southern Conference and ranks 35th in the NCAA, and averages 7.6 rebounds, which ranks third in the SoCon, 2.1 steals, which ranks fifth in the conference, and 2.4 assists, while junior forward Te’ja Twitty averages 13.4 points, which ranks sixth in the SoCon, and 8.1 rebounds, which ranks second in the conference and sophomore forward Aja Boyd averages 8.9 points, which ranks 13th in the SoCon and 7.2 rebounds, which ranks fourth in the conference.

The Spartans lead the SoCon in field goal percentage defense (36.4 percent), rebounding margin (3.4), scoring defense (55.7), which ranks 33rd in the country, scoring margin (10.1) and three-point field goal defense (22.8 percent), which ranks seventh in the country.

Series History

UNCG looks for its first win of the series as Richmond has won all three meetings.  The last time these two schools squared off on the court was Dec. 8, 2012 when the Spiders won 104-69.

About Richmond

Richmond is 2-0 against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, but is 0-10 against the other conferences and has lost the last three games.  The Spiders are led by Alex Parson with 11.9 points per game, Jaide Hinds-Clarke with 7.9 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game and Amy Duggan with 5.6 rebounds per game.


The Spartans are off this weekend, but returns to action next weekend with the start of Southern Conference play with Furman, Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. in Greenville, S.C., and Wofford Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C., to finish the three game road trip.
