GREENSBORO, N.C.- UNC Greensboro’s men’s soccer team will appear in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament for the third year in a row, this time facing Mercer on Friday, Nov. 9 in Johnson City, Tenn.

Kickoff for the matchup between No. 5 seeded UNCG and No. 1 seeded Mercer is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network.

The Spartans In 2018
The Spartans enter Friday’s matchup on a two-game winning streak, as UNCG defeated Furman 1-0 in the team’s regular season finale in late October before scoring a 1-0 victory over Wofford in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament this past Saturday. It is the first time this season that UNCG has recorded back-to-back shutouts.

For the season, UNCG has an overall record of 7-8-2. The offense continues to be led by freshman Jacob Planell, who scored the game-winning goal against Wofford just minutes into the contest. Planell, who has a team-high five goals, is one of six Spartans to score at least two goals so far this season. Defensively, senior defender Josh Masten continues to be the anchor while senior goalkeeper Jon Milligan picked up his fifth win of the season against Wofford.

Earlier this week, senior midfielder Leeroy Maguraushe was named a first-team All-SoCon selection and Planell was named to the conference’s All-Freshman Team.

Series History
Friday’s meeting will be the 15th all-time matchup between the two SoCon schools dating back to the 2002 season.

In the previous 14 matchups, UNCG has won eight times.

A Look At Mercer
The Bears enter Friday afternoon’s matchup with a 12-3-2 overall record. While Mercer lost its regular season finale to ETSU, the Bears at one point were riding an eight-game winning streak from Sept. 25 through Oct. 23 which included a 3-0 victory over UNCG.

Mercer’s offense has been led by Leo Toldeo Jr. and Trevor Martineau, as the two have combined for 45 points this season.
