GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball starts the 2018-19 season with a trip to Atlanta, Ga., to face Sun Belt opponent Georgia State Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Five Facts to Know
--Junior guard Nadine Soliman needs 14 points to become the 25th player in school history to reach the 1,000th career point milestone.
--The Spartans have won both season openers under Head Coach Trina Patterson.
--UNCG returns 10 letterwinners and only lost two letterwinners from last season’s team.
--Soliman and junior forward Te’ja Twitty were named to the 2018-19 All-SoCon Preseason Team
--The Spartans were picked to finish fourth in the SoCon by the coaches and the media.
The Spartans In 2018
Last season, the Spartans went 13-18 including a 6-8 record in the Southern Conference and went 1-1 in the SoCon Tournament.
Solimon led the team with an average of 13.5 points and added 3.8 rebounds per game, while Twitty was second on the team with 6.4 rebounds per game and fourth on the team with 9.5 points per game.
The Spartans lost two letterwinners from a year ago, including the leading rebounder and second leading scorer of Ije Ajemba. Ajemba averaged a double-double with 12 points and 12.5 rebounds. Her 386 rebounds last season were the most in school history for a single-season.
This is the first ever matchup between the two schools.
About Georgia State
Georgia State went 8-22 last season, including a 4-14 record in the conference and a 7-8 record at home. The Panthers return four of their five starters from last season, including the leading scorer in Kierra Henry who averaged 14.2 points per game.
After the season opener, the Spartans play the next nine games in the state of North Carolina starting with the home opener at against Pfeiffer Sunday at 2 p.m in Fleming Gymnasium.
