GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG softball has added transfer Katie Stettler for the 2019 season, head coach Janelle Breneman announced Wednesday. Selected to the Big South Conference All-Freshman Team and North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State Second Team as a starter last season for Gardner Webb, Stettler will have three seasons of eligibility as a Spartan.
“We are looking forward to Katie’s arrival on campus,” said Breneman. “Stettler is a dedicated student-athlete that will fit into our program and the Spartan Way. She brings a versatile skill set and has a passion for the game that is very evident. We welcome her to Team 34, and I look forward to seeing her in action as a Spartan this fall.
Stettler started in 45 of 49 games played primarily at shortstop and the designated player but has the ability to play all over the infield and outfield. Her .306 batting average was fourth on the team to go along with 22 RBIs and 26 runs. Nine of her 45 hits went for extra-bases, and she recorded her first collegiate home run as part of a 4-RBI performance in a victory over Charleston Southern.
In conference action, she hit .328 with an on-base percentage of .369 and slugging percentage of .459. For the season, she had nine games with more than two hits. Also, she was successful on 17-of-18 steal attempts.
