GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball continued its championship season in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year. Of the 32 players on the varsity roster, 21 earned places on the SoCon honor roll as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Spartan baseball recorded a 3.24 GPA during the spring team, the highest of any male sport on campus.

Additionally, Spartan baseball had nine players earn Academic All-Southern Conference honors for their performance this season. To be eligible for the Academic All-SoCon team, student-athletes must have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the end of the semester of competition and have completed at least three semesters academically. The student-athlete must have also competed in at least one half of the team’s competitions.

Redshirt junior Zach Kuchmaner and freshman Jack Ponder were recipients of the Southern Conference’s Commissioner’s Medal, earning above a 3.8 GPA for the academic year. This is the third time that Kuchmaner has earned the Commissioner’s Medal, as he was a recipient of the SoCon’s Pinnacle Award during the 2017 SoCon Tournament Championship run.

Sixth round draft pick Andrew Moritz also earned Academic All-American honors, earning Google Cloud Second Team Academic All-American honors, presented by CoSIDA.
