GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball’s center fielder Andrew Moritz has earned Google Cloud Academic All-District Selected by CoSIDA for the second-straight season. Moritz captured UNCG baseball’s first-ever first team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for his performance a season ago. Moritz and the Spartans are currently 34-12 on the season and are in first place in the Southern Conference standings with a 15-3 league record.
The junior outfielder has earned a 3.89 GPA as an accounting major. On the field, Moritz owns a .433 average, best in the Southern Conference and ranks second in the NCAA. He broke UNCG’s record for triples in a season with 10 and career triples with 23. His 78 hits the season ranks 10th nationally and leads the team with 46 runs scored and has driven in 48 runs this season. He’s hit four home runs and stolen 12 bases this season.
A highly decorated athlete, Moritz was a Freshman All-American and was named to the SoCon Honor Roll and earned the Commissioner’s Medal in his first season. His sophomore season saw him earn academic All-SoCon honors, SoCon Honor Roll and the Commissioner’s Medal for the second-straight season. He earned first team All-SoCon honors and was named to the NCAA Clemson Regional All-Tournament team for his efforts during UNCG’s first NCAA tournament since 1997.
Moritz and the Spartans are in action this weekend as they take on The Citadel Bulldogs in Charleston.
