WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – UNCG men’s and women’s indoor track resumed its 2017-18 indoor season with the JDL New Year College Kick-Off on Sunday afternoon at JDL FastTrack. William Sandin (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) had the best individual finish by a Spartan, winning the 800-meter run.
“This is our first race back after the holiday break and today was a good opportunity to dust the rust off the track legs,” said assistant coach Loren Donohue. “We are happy with the efforts from the team. We wanted to be in the position to win our heats and we were able to do that.
Taylor Delaney (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) was the runner-up in the 800-meter-run, and Ariana Garcia (Beulaville, N.C./East Duplin) also placed second in the mile run. Both Delaney and Garcia were the top collegiate finishers in their respective events.
Holly Mordoff (Silver Spring, Md./Clarksburg) turned in a second-place performance in the 3,000-meter.
Three Spartans won in heats for their events: Josie McGee (Apex, N.C./Apex) in the 400-meter, Ashlyn Dalton (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport South Manor Jr./Sr.) in \ the 800-meter and Ewan Hynes (Cornelius, N.C./William Amos Hough) in the 800-meter.
The Blue & Gold are off next week and returns to action the following weekend with the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 20 and 21.
