GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s basketball returns from its quick holiday hiatus to host the High Point Panthers Thursday night in Fleming Gym at 7. Both teams are coming off of wins that snapped multiple game losing streaks as the Spartans defeated Presbyterian last Thursday and High Point knocked off Western Carolina Friday.

Live stats and a video stream will be available for tomorrow’s contest. Live stats are available via uncgstats.com with a video stream on the SoCon Digital Network. Links for these services are on the UNCG women’s basketball schedule page.

The Spartans enter Thursday’s contest at 5-8. After starting the best five game start since 2006-07, UNCG dropped seven-straight games before snapping that streak last Thursday. UNCG used a big performance from senior center Ije Ajemba (Lanham, Md./Old Dominion) in the victory. Her 22 points set a new career-high and her 18 rebounds was one off the single game UNCG women’s basketball record in the Division I era.

Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) leads the team with a 13.4 points per game average and she shoots 40-percent from the field. Alexus Willey (Waldorf, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scores an average of 11.6 points per game and she leads the team with 23 made 3-pointers. Her 33-percent average from distance is ninth best in the Southern Conference.

Ajemba has been a dominant force inside this season. She leads the SoCon with an 11.5 rebounds per game average which ranks 13th in the nation. She’s 11th in the country with 8.0 defensive rebounds per game and her 149 total rebounds is seventh best in the nation. She chips in 10.4 points per game.

The Spartans shoot 42-percent from the field as a team and 25-percent from distance. UNCG does the bulk of its damage under the hoop, outscoring opponents 434-330 in the paint. The Blue and Gold outrebounds opponents by an average +3.5, which leads to UNCG outscoring opponents by 37 points on second chance opportunities.

High Point enters with a 5-5 record this season. The Panthers had lost three-straight before defeating fellow SoCon member, Western Carolina last Friday. HPU and UNCG have two common opponents in Duke and Norfolk State. Both lost at Duke and High Point escaped Norfolk State with a 59-56 win. HPU is 2-3 on the road this season, including losses at Virginia Tech and Ohio.

The Panthers average 70.5 points per game and allow 69.8 points per contest. Senior guard Kat Harris leads the Panthers with a 13.7 points per game average. Harris comes off the bench and made 22 3-pointers, second most on the team behind Camryn Brown. Brown averages 11.7 points per game and has hit 25 3-pointers in a starting role. She also leads the team with 3.9 assists per game. Emma Bockrath averages 12.7 points per game. The junior guard scored a season-high 21 at Duke in a loss.

On the boards, High Point is led by the pair of Bockrath and Kennedy Currie. Currie leads the Panthers with 8.0 rebounds per game with 53 defensive rebounds. Bockrath has been tough on the offensive glass as 26 of her 75 total rebounds have gone for a second chance opportunity.
