GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s basketball hosts the Division II Tusculum Pioneers for its second annual Education Day tomorrow morning at 11. The Spartans will welcome around 900 students from Lindley Elementary, Hunter Elementary and Turrentine Middle schools for the contest. The Spartans are coming off of a tough 64-63 loss at Norfolk State Friday. Tusculum split its four games in December, most recently falling at No. 14 Wingate, 83-69.

The Spartans and Pioneers have never met on the hardwood. Tusculum was a member of the NAIA when UNCG was a Division II institution prior to making the jump to Division I.

Nadine Soliman (Cairo, Egypt/Mokattam Language School) and Alexus Willey (Waldorf, Md./Riverdale Baptist) lead the Spartan offense. Soliman scores 13.7 points per game and has scored in double figures in back-to-back games. Willey is coming off of a season-high 16-point performance against Norfolk State and she averages 10.7 points per contest.

Brandi Fier (South Beloit. Ill./Illinois Central CC) dishes out a team-high 3.72 assists per game and scores 7.6 points per game on average. Ije Ajemba (Lanham, Md./Old Dominion) is a force inside, grabbing 119 total rebounds. Her 10.8 rebounds per game average leads the SoCon and ranks 18th nationally. Her total rebounds ranks 14th and her 7.0 defensive rebounds per game average is 23rd nationally.

Tusculum enters Tuesday’s contest with an 8-3 overall record. The Pioneers have competed in two exhibitions against Division I opponents, falling at Appalachian State and Tennessee Tech.

The Pioneers average 77.4 points per game this season with four players averaging double figures. Sydney Wilson leads the offense with 13.7 points per game and has worked her way into the starting lineup. Kasey Johnson adds 12.7 points per contest, shooting 47-percent from the field and a team leading 35-percent from 3-point land. Mia Long and Yolizma Cupidan add 11.8 and 10.4 points per game, respectively.

Martoria Patton leads the Pioneers on the boards, hauling down a team-high 7.4 rebounds in just 19.8 minutes per game. Patton has started all 11 games this season and chips in 6.2 points per game. Johnson records 6.5 rebounds per game, including 4.6 defensive rebounds. Maddie Sutton isn’t far behind, bringing down 6.0 rebounds per contest.

The Pioneers have split their four games in December, winning at home against Queens (N.C.) and Coker, but falling at Catawba and No. 14 Wingate. In November, Tusculum won six of its seven games.
