GREENSBORO, N.C. – Track season hits the ground running when UNCG opens its indoor track season at JDL FastTrack in Winston-Salem. Head coach Chad Pearson announced the indoor and outdoor track schedules Wednesday afternoon.
“We are very excited about both our indoor and outdoor seasons for our UNCG squads,” said Pearson. “Both schedules include competitions that our teams are familiar with, and that will certainly help on the competitive side not only for the competitions themselves but with our training cycles that we are trying to implement during both seasons.”
UNCG will open with the only home meet of the season, the Early Bird Duals, Sunday, December 3 at 11 a.m. The Spartans will return to Winston-Salem for three of four meets in January. The first meet in 2018 will be the JDL New Year College Kick-Off on Jan. 7 and is followed by a trip to Johnson City, Tennessee for the ETSU Invitational on Jan. 12-13. The month ends with the Wake Forest Invitational (Jan. 20-21) and JDL College Dual Meet Madness (Jan. 28).
“Competing at JDL Fast Track on a consistent basis during the indoor season will allow us in some ways a home field advantage as the venue is only 30 minutes away,” said Peason. “Hosting our UNCG Early Bird Duals competition at JDL Fast Track is a great opportunity to kick off the indoor season so close to Greensboro.”
In February the Spartans compete in back-to-back meets at JDL FastTrack for the Camel City Invitational and JDL College Challenge Feb. 2-3 and 8. UNCG will head to Lynchburg, Virginia for the Liberty Elite Invitational on Feb. 9-10 before returning home for the UCS Invitational February 16-17.
The Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships is slated for February 24-25 in Lexington, Virginia, and the NCAA Indoor Track Championships will be held March 9-10 in College Station, Texas at Texas A&M University.
Outdoor track season begins March 9-10 with the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington. The Blue & Gold will compete in six-straight meets based in North Carolina to begin the outdoor season with the 49er Classic (March 15-17) in Charlotte, Wake Forest Invitational (March 24) and the Raleigh Relays (March 30-31) following UNCW’s meet.
UNCG begins April with High Point’s Vertklasse Meeting on April 6-7 and will stay in Greensboro for the Aggie Invite on April 13-14. The Spartans will participate in two ACC meets on April 20-21: the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville and Duke invitational.
“As for outdoor season, we are excited about the level of competition for our student-athletes at each of our competitions,” said Pearson. “Overall it’s just a feeling of excitement to begin our track seasons soon with our squads.
The SoCon Championships will be hosted by Western Carolina in Cullowhee on May 10-11. The NCAA East Preliminary is set for May 24-26 in Tampa, Florida, and the NCAA National Championships will once again return to Eugene, Oregon on June 6-9.
