David Silversmith enters his third season as a cross country/track assistant coach on Chad Pearson’s staff in 2019-20. Silversmith came to Greensboro after serving as head cross country coach at William Peace University in Raleigh, North Carolina. While heading up the Division III program, he was in charge of managing the program budget, coordinating all travel for practices and competition, monitoring the academic progress of his student-athletes and recruiting.

Prior to taking over at William Peace, Silversmith was a volunteer assistant coach for cross country and track & field at ACC power North Carolina during the 2015-16 season. During his time in Chapel Hill, he worked closely with head coach Mark VanAlstyne and the director of operations in administrative areas such as budget, scheduling and equipment management. Silversmith also assisted in recruiting activities for distance and throws and provided daily instruction of fundamental middle and long distance running technique and strategy.

The Tar Heels received numerous honors with Silversmith on staff, as four different runners received All-ACC Cross Country selections. Additionally, six different runners received All-Region Cross Country selections. During the 2015-16 season, Silversmith assisted in Stephen Mulherin finish in the top five of the All-ACC 10,000m outdoors. Carolina Alcorta, meanwhile, earned third place in the All-ACC 1,500m outdoors on the women's side. As a team, the Tar Heels earned three top-five finishes including third place in the NCAA Southeast Regional.

In addition to his coaching experience, Silversmith has served as a camp counselor around the Chapel Hill area for several years, working with the Carolina Distance Camp and Tar Heel Track and Field Camp.

Silversmith ran track and was an All-American cross country athlete at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2013. He received his master’s degree in 2016 from Michigan State University.
