GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women’s soccer head coach Michael Coll has announced the hiring of Stefani Workman to the Spartan staff. Workman, who brings 12 years of coaching experience to the Gate City, will work primarily with the Spartan goalkeepers.

"I would like to thank Coach Coll for allowing me this coaching opportunity at UNCG,” said Workman. “I am grateful that I get to join such a tenured and experienced staff.  I look forward to working with the team this fall in hopes of helping bring a SoCon Championship back to Greensboro."

Following a national search, Coll targeted Workman as the right person to replace former goalkeeper coach Megan Kinneman, who departed for a similar position at her alma mater, Louisiana State University.

"Stefani has tremendous experience at the Division I level,” said Coll. “All of her past head coaches shared with me how reliable and hardworking she was in her time with them and how much the players really connected with her. She has worked with with some very high quality women's soccer programs including a couple of “power five” schools. Our goalkeepers will receive top level guidance and development under Stefani and she has already proven to be a very valuable link as we work towards our goals this season"

Workman comes to Greensboro following a two-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Dayton. In 2016, she helped the Flyers capture an Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and a birth in the NCAA tournament, finishing the season with a 9-10-3 overall record. During her run in the Buckeye State, Workman served as the director of goalkeeping for Thunder United in Cincinnati and was the Ohio South ODP head coach.

Before joining the Dayton staff, Workman coached for one season as an assistant at the University of Georgia. While in Georgia, she mentored three All-Southeastern Conference performers as the Bulldogs achieved a 10-8-2 record during the 2014 campaign, earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament

Prior to making the move to Athens, Georgia, Workman spent four seasons in Athens, West Virginia as the head coach of NCAA Division II program Concord University. From 2010-14 the Mountain Lions posted a 34-31-4 record, garnering 14 all-conference selections

Workman spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons at the University of West Virginia as goalkeeper coach, helping lead the Mountaineers to 26 shutouts and a pair of postseason appearances during her two seasons. She got her start in coaching in 2005 as an assistant at the University of Cincinnati, working with the Bearcat goalkeepers and defense for three seasons.

In addition to her experienced at the collegiate level, Workman was part of the staff of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Olympic Development program from 2009-2014. She has a USSF "B" license and an NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma, the highest level of education for goalkeeper coaches.

In her playing career, Workman started all four seasons in goal at Morehead State University. As a senior in 2004, she recorded 80 saves, was twice named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, and helped the Eagles to the OVC Tournament. She earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Morehead State in 2005, graduating with summa cum laude honors. She also attended the NCAA Student Athlete Leadership Conference and was the Champ Life Skills Coordinator for Athlete Activities. While at Morehead, Workman worked extensively with the Kentucky Youth Olympic Development Program. She also spent time at the Region II ODP Development Group, training goalkeepers.

A native of Poca, West Virginia, Workman was named the 2000 West Virginia Soccer Coaches goalkeeper of the year. A four-year starter at Poca High, she was named to the all-state team four times, including first-team recognition in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Workman played club soccer for West Virginia United from 1999-2001.
