Baseball Coaching Staff
Coach Info:
Position:

Blair Betts joined the UNCG coaching staff for the 2018 season as the volunteer assistant coach. Betts played three seasons for the Spartans and one at Indiana before entering the coaching ranks. He comes to UNCG from Louisburg College, a junior college in Louisburg, N.C. where he was the pitching and outfield coach.

At UNCG, Betts works with the outfielders and works as the team’s travel coordinator and will help coordinate all UNCG baseball camps and clinics.

In his first season at UNCG, Betts helped tutor an outfield that saw two underclassmen drafted during the 2018 MLB Draft. His outfielders recorded just six errors on 291 chances, earning a .979 fielding percentage. The outfielders recorded six outfield assists, led by four from redshirt senior Dillon Stewart.

Betts also worked as the first base coach during the season. He helped lead the nation’s second-best offense to a .326 average, with 164 extra-base hits. He advised on 94 doubles, 30 triples and was the first stop on the team’s 40 home runs. The Spartan offense recorded 35 games with double-digit hits, going 30-5 in those contests. When scoring double-digit runs, UNCG was 13-0 when scoring double-digit runs during the year.

Betts coached for two seasons with the Louisburg College Hurricanes. There he worked with the outfielders and assisted the head coach with the pitching staff. At Louisburg, he helped double the team’s win total in two seasons while developing the program’s overall pitching and throwing programs.

Prior to his stop at Louisburg, Betts worked as an assistant coach with the Holly Springs Salamanders of the Coastal Plain League where he assisted pitchers with developing pitching techniques and prepare players for the challenge of pitching at the collegiate level.

Other coaching experiences include working several baseball camps with Elon University, UNCG and Louisburg College. He also worked with Impact Baseball out of Myrtle Beach, S.C. as well as volunteering with the North Carolina Special Olympics in Wake County.

As a player with UNCG, Betts appeared in 65 games all out of the bullpen, earning a 3-3 recording from 2013-2015 at UNCG. In 68.1 innings of work, Betts struck out 54 hitters, including 30 in his senior season. Betts led the team in appearances in his junior and senior seasons, making 30 appearances as a junior and 24 in his senior season. He recorded career-highs in innings pitched (4.0) and strikeouts (5) in the series finale against Furman in 2015. Betts earned his first win over No. 16 NC State in Raleigh as he threw 0.2 innings, striking out a hitter as a sophomore.

Prior to UNCG, Betts played one season at Indiana University before transferring in the fall of 2011. He graduated from UNCG with a degree in communications following the 2015 season.
