Track & Field Opens Up Competition at Southern Conference Outdoor Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UNCG track & field opened up competition at the 2017 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships Thursday, hitting the track at the Samford Track Stadium.
In the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, Katherine Link (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) finished fifth, timing in at 11:19.90. In the only other finals action of the day for the Spartans, Brandon King (Burnsville, N.C./Mitchell) took 17th in the 10,000 meters in 34:09.55, one spot ahead of Patrick O'Grady (Roswell, Ga./Blessed Trinity), who finished in 36:08.92.
In preliminary competition, Taylor Delaney (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) qualified for the finals as the second fastest time with a 2:13.09.
Jeffrey Beane (Asheboro, N.C./Asheboro) also qualified for the finals, posting a 15.00 in the 110 meter hurdles for seventh. In the 800 meter prelims, Keeton Glenn (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) finished 12th in 1:58.02, while Jonathan Hodge (Kannapolis, N.C./A.L. Brown) timed in at 2:03.10 for 17th.
Palmer Dupree (Charlotte, N.C./Hickory Ridge) rounded out the racing for the Blue and Gold in the 200 meter prelims, taking 10th with a time of 23.26.
The 2017 SoCon Outdoor Championships will conclude Friday, with racing slated to begin at 8:45 a.m. in Birmingham, Alabama.
