Sholtes Rakes In SoCon Player of the Month Laurel
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Just an hour after teammate Alicia Bazonski (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) was named the conference pitcher of the week, sophomore first baseman Marisa Sholtes (Albany, N.Y./South Colonie Central) has been tabbed the Southern Conference Player of the Month for April.
Sholtes is UNCG's first SoCon Player of the Month in 2017 and the first Spartan to receive the distinction since Lindsay Thomas in March of 2016.
Over the course of 13 games, Sholtes batted a robust .432, cranking out three home runs and three doubles on the way to 14 RBIs for the month, all team-highs. Sholtes also drew four walks, posting a .512 on-base percentage. For the month, the New York native recorded a .757 slugging percentage, scoring seven runs.
Sholtes leads the team with a .347 batting average and a .736 slugging percentage. Despite missing significant time with an injury, the sophomore is tied for fourth in the conference with eight home runs, posting 24 RBIs and scoring 14 runs.
Sholtes and UNCG conclude the regular season this weekend with a three-game series with ETSU at the UNCG Softball Stadium. Sunday's series finale will serve as Senior Day for the Spartans.
