GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kylie Bouplon (Wilson, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) surrendered a first inning grand slam and Elon never looked back Friday afternoon, defeating UNCG 11-1 in five innings at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
Bouplon wore the loss in the game, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits in her 3.2 innings of work. Alicia Bazonski (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) threw 1.1 innings in relief, allowing a single run on one hit.
The first four batters of the game reach for the Phoenix, capped by a towering home run with the bases full by Carey Million.
The Spartans came back with a run in the bottom half as Gabrielle Cubbage (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) scored Jasmine Palmer (Lake Biltmore, N.C./Florida State) with a single to left field. Unfortunately for UNCG, that was about all the offense that the Blue and Gold was able to muster.
The Phoenix again put up a crooked number in the fourth, tagging the Spartans for six runs in the frame. Three of those runs came via the long ball as Alaina Hall pummeled a two-RBI dinger to center and Million again left the yard with a solo shot to left.
Elon added a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly off of the bat of Hannah Olson, plating Erica Serafani. Phoenix pitcher Kiandra Mitchum struck out the side in the fifth, handing the Spartans the loss via the run-rule.
The two sides return to the UNCG Softball Stadium Saturday for a doubleheader to complete the three game series. The first game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
Maegan Sloggett and Kelly Self will have the call on the broadcast, streamed live on YouTube. Links to live coverage are available at UNCGSpartans.com.
